Thespians

What is Thespians?
The International Thespian Society was founded in 1929, and is a division of the Educational Theatre Association. The name comes from Thespis, the Greek who, according to legend, was the first actor.  The International Thespian Society has as its goal honoring excellence in middle- and high-school theatre. There are thousands of troupes and affiliated schools across the United States, Canada and abroad. We have an active troupe here at Sehome, Thespian Troupe #4614.

What do Thespians do?
The Thespian troupe at Sehome High participates in the fall and spring productions, takes part in the annual monologue/duet competitions, attends the State Thespian Conference, and goes to see theatre in our community.  We meet approximately twice a month throughout the year.

How can I join Thespians?
To become a Thespian member, you must accumulate the required number of points.  Points may be acquired by participating in Sehome’s two annual plays.  You do not have to be acting in the plays to receive points; tech work (lights, sound, props, set etc.) is also applicable.

Do I have to be a Thespian to be involved in theatre at Sehome?
You do not have to be a Thespian to be involved in theatre at Sehome.  Anyone can take a drama class, and everyone is encouraged to audition for roles or do tech work for the plays.  Being involved in theatre and the arts is a valuable experience and lots of fun!

The Thespian Motto:
“Act well your part; there all the honor lies.”
